Well it's been awhile since I have put out a newsletter so I thought I would fill you in on what's happening here at Style Mosaic beauty salon. Keratin Confusion

On a more serious note I want to fill you in on the latest in Keratin News, or Confusion as I have titled this article.
There is a lot of conflicting info going around about different types of new Keratin services. Please don't be fooled, or deceived. Many salons are jumping on the Keratin Ban wagon, but they do not take the time to do their research and learn all about their own product, verses the others out there. They simply want to cash in on the hype. Because they are being careless with their own education, they may be giving false information out about their product or other companies. They may brag that there is no Formaldehyde or aldehyde in their product, however there may be Thio, or other chemicals in them that make it a totally different product. Simply Smooth's Color Lock aka Mini Keratin Treatment, (a $40 service) is a great choice for a 4-6 WEEK treatment that is very mild and you don't have to do anything to make it last that long....You can believe there is Zero Thio and Zero formalin in the bottle. There are new products out there called Keratin Glazing, they wash out after SIX shampoos, UNLESS you buy more of their glaze ($45 Plus) to do at home. The Service of Keratin Glazing should only cost $15 as an add on service or $25 , as a stand alone service.
Simply Smooth uses a company called Intertek that tests EVERY batch of all their Keratin products. All of the products fall under the 0.2 % of aldehyde's that OSHA deems perfectly safe. So make sure the stylist KNOWS her stuff, ask questions, like: what kind of keratin is in your product, how many treatments have you done already, will it relax my curl, if so how much...IF it is a lot then there is something in the bottle that may not be formaldehyde, HOWEVER it could be Thio or cysteine,another name for Thio, which is found in perms. (they probably won't tell you that if they are aware of it, but it smells like a perm) It actually changes the bonds of the hair to be straight or curly. This is found in some Keratin Fusion products. It's not bad, but you need to know what you are putting on your hair, again they can say, "NO FORMALDEHYDE" and be telling the truth, but it still has chemicals that penetrate the bonds of the hair, which a KERATIN treatment does NOT do. Simply Smooth has a Primer that I use on the unruly, very curly or course, hair before I do the Original Formula Keratin treatment, it has a mild thio in it to relax the curl and help open stubborn cuticles, making them ready to receive the Keratin. This would be similar to the Keratin Fusion.
I have been trained in a few different brands, and have done extensive training and research with Simply Smooth. I find it to still be the best line of product out there, because it is ALL about the KERATIN. Simply Smooth uses GRADE A Human Hair Keratin along with Botanicals for added moisture. Simply Smooth has several different products to give the client choices of which result they want, and we offer different treatments for different budgets. We also educate our stylists as to what exactly is IN our formula's and products so they know if they are giving a service that will penetrate the bonds of the hair, or if they are filling in the Lost Keratin just under the cuticle of the hair. We have every single batch of Keratin tested with Intertek to ensure quality control and safety of our stylists and clients. Our owner and co creator Doreen Guarneri, is involved on every level. She is in the lab developing the products, in the salon applying the products, she is out educating others on the products, and she is distributing them as well.
